Disciple Bible Study

For several years, Maynard has been active in extending an open invitation to participate in a life-changing Christian education program, Disciple Bible Study.

We welcome our friends, neighbors, family, newcomers, believers, seekers, doubters, associates, the unchurched, people from other churches, young and old, gay or straight, any marital status, and any race. All are welcome to come and join us. You can expect to learn a great deal about the Bible, be part of a loving, caring, nurturing group of people, enjoy fellowship, have prayer support, ignite spiritual growth, and decipher if there is something God is calling you to do.

There are no pre-requisites for enrolling in this class. You don't have to be a Bible scholar to participate or feel uncomfortable if you haven't been to church recently. We will embrace you no matter where you find yourself spiritually. A willingness to open your heart and mind to receive God's message as you explore the scriptures is the key.

Why Disciple, you ask? Because it lays the foundation and prepares you to be bold and courageous, like Apostle Paul, in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to enroll at the next opportunity and enjoy the journey as you watch your existing life undergo a major transformation into a life of service for Christ and inviting others to Christ.

What is Disciple?

Disciple is a small group Bible study designed to permit the student to discover what the Bible says to them, personally, so that they can then act on that understanding: that is, be a Disciple of Jesus Christ. It is not intended to lead you to believe something that someone else has decided is the right thing to believe.

Final interpretation is the prerogative of the student. The course is organized into 34 weekly lessons with each lesson containing reading assignments and activities for classroom discussion. The class is comprised of no more than twelve students and a group facilitator.

Youth (tenth grade and up) and adults may participate in the same class. The course was developed by United Methodist Church bishops and is sanctioned by the United Methodist Church.

Christian Workers Class

This class currently consists of middle-age to senior men and women, but is open to all adults no matter their station in life. It meets from 9:15 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. The class opens with the singing of traditional hymns and follows with a lecture/discussion Bible study using the International Lesson Series. This is a class where members can share praise notes, prayer requests and special celebration.

Members of this class take turns opening their homes to host a monthly class meeting/fellowship on the third Tuesday of the month (excluding Jan/Feb) at 7 p.m.

Contemporary Adult Class

This class is for any adult, no matter what age, marital status, or stage of spiritual development. It meets from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. The members of this class use sharing and open discussion to explore their understanding of Christianity from the perspectives of scripture and the modern world. Topical studies lasting several weeks are the norm.

United Methodist Women

The purpose of the United Methodist Women is to support women in their relationship with God so that through spiritual friendship, mentoring, modeling, and teaching one another, we might experience the boldness to become all that God intends us to be.

They have made a "Pledge to Mission" of which a portion supports mission personnel and another portion focuses on the needs of women, children, and youth. Their involvement in this connectional organization will help spread "light" all around the world.

We embrace new members with "radical hospitality" and invite you to join us the first Thursday of every month (except Jan) at 10 a.m. to participate in the various aspects of this important ministry. We routinely meet in the church fellowship hall and occasionally gather at a restaurant or a member’s home.
