Music & Arts Ministry

Stacks Image 218
During worship we use a variety of musical styles from contemporary praise and worship music led by our praise team which, at times, brings people to their feet and their hands together, to traditional four square hymns which inspire by their sturdiness, to old gospel favorites that warm the heart and soul.

We have an active adult choir that rehearses weekly during the school year on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Reading music is not a requirement, only a willing spirit! In addition to the choir's diligence in preparing anthems for Sunday worship, the choir participates in an annual fall massed choir concert that raises money for Neighborhood Services, Inc., and Ohio State University area concern that aids people with need. The Sunday before Christmas the worship service is given over completely to music with the choir telling the story of the Nativity in song. Holy Week and Easter bring extra musical opportunities.

We have a three octave set of Malmark hand bells played by our Adult and Youth hand bell choirs. During the school year, the hand bell teams meet weekly to rehearse on Saturday at 5 p.m. It, too, like the adult choir, is open to anyone. The only requirement to play the hand bells is being able to count. Their joy of making music is what brings them to this ministry. They play periodically during the year and at special worship services.

Our summer services have special music provided by soloists and small groups. Our last formal musical event before summer, however, is what we call When In Our Music God Is Glorified. It is an occasion where people of all ages share their talents, a wonderful way to send us off for summer vacation!

Another way in which we explore God, his word, and talents of the Maynard flock is through drama. Through monologues, reader's theater, litanies, and similar dramatic devices, we experience God in new ways.

Children's Sunday School

Our Children's Sunday School is held from 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. for children in grades K-5.

Our Children's Sunday School is a time to celebrate and share the stories of God and Jesus discovering how they affect and guide our lives today. We just finished a fantastic year, studying the life of Jesus and learning the order of the 27 books of the New Testament! (Believe it or not, we learned the books using a song off the internet! Just stop one of the Sunday School kids and ask to be serenaded; stop one of the teachers and you will probably get a dance too!) We learned about the people who were followers of Jesus and about how Jesus taught using parables. We used our new Common English Version (CEV) DEEP BLUE KIDS Bibles to look up the New Testament stories and to practice our reading skills. Our teachers use storytelling, games, arts and crafts, and music, in addition to Bible reading to reinforce the weekly lessons.

Beginning in September 2013, we will continue learning to use our new Bibles, but will concentrate on favorite Old Testament Bible heroes like Daniel, Jonah, and Esther. There is even a new song to learn the 39 books of the Old Testament. (Yea!)

Come and join us for this fun-filled, informative look at the Bible and its heroes, more on the life of Jesus and His disciples, and learn with us how to share Christ's love and acceptance of all, no matter how small you are. We look forward to seeing you.

Join us every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., beginning September 8, 2013.

Teachers: Natalie Snarr, Megan Miller, Lyndsey Johnston, and Bethany Torres

Youth Sunday School

Our Youth Sunday School meets at 9:30 a.m. for ages 12 years to 17 years.

Youth Sunday School is a chance for the youth to learn about what it means to be a teen in today's world. We talk about life, the Bible, and how Jesus guides our lives in a safe and comfortable space. Come, relax, and share your thoughts about what is happening in your life. You will always find a space where you are loved and accepted no matter who you are, where you live, or what you are feeling!

Join us every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., beginning September 2013.

Teachers will be announced in the fall.

Youth P.O.G. (Power of God) and Youth Drama

Stacks Image 453
During the school year, the youth group meets twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Saturday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the church. During the summer months, the youth group will meet once a month for a fun summer-filled activity!

P.O.G. is an open and active group of middle through senior high school students (ages 12 - 17 years), welcoming believers, seekers, doubters, and those who just want to have fun. We invite youth to come, bring a friend, and grow with us. Come for the fellowship, stay for the journey.

In 2013, Rory Smith joined our group and Youth Drama was born! Youth Drama is a chance to have some fun, learn monologues, and begin to appreciate drama in whole new ways. We even got the chance to share our gift for drama at the Christmas Eve and Easter services with fun skits about the innkeeper who shared his stable with Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus; and what Easter is really about (not just purple fluffy bunnies, pretty eggs, and lots of candy).

Whether we were going on field trips, having lock-ins, or just hanging out in the parlor, our goal is and will be to encourage, strengthen, and meet each other's needs…equipping each youth to passionately strive to be more like Christ through studying the Bible and spending time together in prayer and worship…to reach out as a shining light to others in our own communities and beyond through service and love…and to have fun in the process.

We learn about our faith in God through games, activities, and discussions. They are always fun. There is always FOOD! So join us! We'd love to see you!

Leaders: Lyndsey Johnston, Nichole Dodd (Jr. Leader, Rory Smith [Youth Drama])
