Shepherding Program

The purpose of the Shepherding Program is to provide care for the members and  friends of Maynard Avenue UM Church and to help us nurture one another in Christian love. The goal is for every person to feel cared for and connected to Christ and the church.

Each person or family who wishes to participate is assigned a Shepherd, who contacts people several times a year, prays for and encourages them, sends birthday and other cards, and mobilizes care in times of special need. The Shepherding Program does not replace the care provided by the pastor, but augments and expands that care. Shepherds are persons who answer God's call to caring ministry and receive training in this program. If you are interested in having or being a Shepherd, please call the church office.

Would you be interested in serving as a shepherd at Maynard UMC?

Duties include:

  1. Making periodic phone calls to 4-6 church families just to see how they are doing;

  2. Encouraging those in your group to contact you in times of need;

  3. Sending out cards for birthdays, illness, sympathy, thinking of you, etc.;

  4. Notifying others in the group when a household needs special care - hospitalization, illness, moving, loss of job, financial crisis, etc.;

  5. Contacting your "sheep" should their attendance drop and make sure they are not in need of special care;

  6. Serving in this position for one year, with the possibility of additional year if desired.
